BRIEF HISTORY

The 43rd Tn Company was originally called " The 5th Tennessee Volunteers ". The formation of the 43rd Tennessee was organized on November 5, 1861 at Rogersville, and Hawkins County Tennessee. Commanding Officers were Captian John W. Philips, and Captian Joseph Huffmaster.
The flag was given to the Commanding officer Col. Key in Mount Sterling, Kentucky. It is not known to this date what the flag really looks like but when the original flag was captured in Vicksburg, Mississippi it was reported that it had 972 bullet holes in it.
